New research (Hammer, 2010) in Canada, my home and native land, shows that University students are far more likely to cheat on tests or plagiarise an academic paper in whole or in part. A possible solution is for universities to employ better testing that does not rely on regurgitating information but on assessing reasoning and thinking processes. Students brought up in the digital world need to know exactly what is expected of them. Collaborative work is not the same as one’s own work.
On Aug. 1st, 2010, Trip Gabriel published an interesting article on this phenomena which can be found here: http://nyti.ms/ap0Sbe
i’m hoping Murdoch Uni is on top of this.
